Welcome! My name is Sara-Beth and I do a ton of traveling, and a ton more photography. I'll be showing you a photo of mine each day, talking a little about where, when, and how it was shot.

If anyone is interested in buying a print, I've been trying to find a good online service for selling at reasonable prices. If you know of one, tell me! My email and other info is on my profile, which is linked to on the right half of the page.

Falling Sakura Petals

falling sakura petals:
4.9.2006

Taken at a Shintó shrine in downtown Kyoto, the sakura in full bloom. Sakura are the "Japanese cherry blossom", a symbol of the fleeting life of a samurai as they only grew, blossomed, and wilted in a matter of two weeks or so.

A wonderful holiday known as "hanami", or the flower-viewing festival commemorated the event every spring, where locals flock to shrine gardens and public spaces to view flowers, barbeque, and set off fireworks by the river.

Notes on the photo:

Taken with a Sony DSC S90, an entry level point-and-shoot digital  I received at no charge back in high school. Lighting was natural, with no flash, taken at mid-day from a bridge looking through a low-hanging sakura tree.

My second-ever destination shot, after Roatan Island (Venezuela).
